Calgary Wedding Photographer: Scandinavian Centre and Confederation Park - Tanya & Nick

Two days ago, I felt as if I had been to a Big Bang Theory's wedding (didn't find Sheldon, though). It was the first time that I had a renowned scientist as the commissioner, Jay Ingram, and the entire day oozed 'geek' :) Two words: super cool!

Tanya, the bride, is one very resourceful lady; she made the centre pieces, the bouquets, and the desserts by herself! Among many other things, she also loves climbing. It was the first time ever that I saw a bride in her wedding dress climb a tree :D

More photos from the wedding will be posted on our Facebook page in the coming days, so follow our FB page and feel free to share/tag!

From the Bride

What do you love most about each other?

Tanya – I love how we bring out the best in each other, how we understand when the other is stressed and help them deal with their problems, and how our promise of “never going to bed angry” has made us great at communicating and solving problems as a team. Nick is my best friend. I’m very introverted and he is basically the only person I can spend time with 24/7 and not feel the least bit tired. Plus, he laughs at my puns and caters to my love of dinosaurs and chocolate.

Nick - My favorite part about Tanya is that she is always growing as a person. She is always trying to learn something new or try out a new activity. It's an attitude of growth that pushes a relationship forward. Her passion for everything is inspiring. When you meet someone with that kind of drive and excitement for life, it lights up your world. It's an amazing feeling and I can't imagine having a more wonderful friend for the future and beyond.

Tell me the story of the proposal

Nick knew I didn’t want anything public. A while before I bought us a set of fancy massage lotions and massage equipment for Christmas, so he put on some spa music, took off all the rings on my fingers and gave me a great back and arm massage. Then he changed the music to the “Book of Love” by Peter Gabriel (the ending song of the last episode of Scrubs, and our first dance song as well!), “sneakily” slipped the engagement ring on my finger, waited for me to turn around and proposed.

Funny ending: he showed me that the ring box came in a bigger box that was hilariously big, so I told him to re-propose but open the big box first, take out the small and open it again. Looked so funny!

What was your first date?

Nick came over to my apartment for my favorite sushi – he wasn’t as huge of a fan of sushi at that point, but now he is haha! I tried to plan it so I’d pick up the sushi around the time his bus arrived so we could walk to my place together, but he missed his first bus and my smooth plans didn’t quite go according to plan. Not that it mattered really J

What’s your favourite thing to do together?

We love rock climbing (about 3-4 times a week when we can!), watching Movies/TV Shows together (especially Scrubs and Vikings), build video games and phone apps together. Currently rock climbing is something we do most often and always try to make time for, but after the stress of wedding planning goes down we’ll probably start concentrating on the others as well!

What was the most memorable part of the wedding day?

We really enjoyed most of the wedding. For example, even though it rained during the photography session, we just imagined the rainy wedding from the movie In Time which made it more fun. We both agreed today that we will probably remember our first dance as the best we’ve ever danced. We had so little practice and were both nervous to dance in front of so many people, but when the music started and we faced each other we definitely forgot about everyone else and enjoyed dancing to one of our favorite songs.
